CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 68-38 at Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
The Profs improve to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference. The win ended Rowan’s four game losing streak. The Raptors have a 6-9 record with a 0-5 NJAC mark. Rowan compiled 45 rebounds while Rutgers-Camden had 27.
Forward Lauren Gregg (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Forward Brittany Baum (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards. Forward Erin Farrell (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) contributed with a career-mark of 18 points off the bench. Guard Lauren Creel (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) dished five assists. Guard Alissa Lamey (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) chipped in with six points, three assists and four steals.
For Rutgers-Camden, guard Brittany Turner (jr. Belleville, NJ/Queen of Peace) totaled 16 points and six steals. Center Cynthia Williams (jr. Clayton, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and forward Alyce Milakovic (so. Blackwood, NJ/Triton Reg.) registered six and five rebounds respectively.
In the first half, the score was tied at two with 18:28 on the clock. Baum (17:55) and Gregg (17:02) hit back-to-back three-pointers for a six point advantage (8-2). The Raptors pulled within two points (9-7) after a jumper by guard Stephanie Deisley (jr. Riverside, NJ/Holy Cross) at 15:43. Rowan scored 11 straight points to lead by 13 (20-7) with 8:57 remaining. Gregg contributed with seven points while guard Gina Catanzariti (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Farrell had two apiece.
Lamey nailed a three at 6:33 which made the score 26-9. Williams had a jumper at 4:57 and the Raptors trailed 26-13. The Profs ended the period with a 12-0 run for a 25 point lead (38-13) at the break. Baum scored six points, Farrell had four and Gregg added two. Gregg ended the period with 14 points and Baum totaled 10.
The closest Rutgers-Camden came in the second half was 18 points (38-20) at 16:49 after Turner made two foul shots. Farrell’s layup at 13:09 put Rowan up 46-22. The Profs led by 32 points (56-24) at 8:47 after Creel had a basket. With 6:07 left, Farrell made a layup to lead 62-30. She was the scoring leader in the second stanza with 12 points.
Rowan plays at home on Saturday, January 15 against conference opponent Montclair State University at 1 p.m.
