YORK, PA – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team took sixth place at the Spartan Best Western Westgate Invitational on Friday-Saturday, September 24-25. On Saturday, Rowan was defeated by Virginia Wesleyan College, 3-1 and Johns Hopkins University, 3-0.
On Friday night, Rowan topped Muhlenberg College, 3-0 and lost to St. Mary’s College (MD), 3-0. The Profs have a 6-4 overall record.
The set scores against Virginia Wesleyan (11-2) were 12-25, 25-20, 25-19 and 25-15. Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) totaled 10 kills and two blocks. Middle blocker Krissy Collins (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) posted six kills, two blocks and two service aces. Setter Kelsey Donovan (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) compiled 28 assists and eight digs. Middle blocker Kirstin Sciolaro (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added seven kills and four digs.
Versus Johns Hopkins (9-9), the set scores were 25-14, 25-22 and 25-18. Outside hitter Katie Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) registered 11 kills, nine digs and two blocks. Binetti contributed with seven kills and two blocks. Opposite Megan Mondelli (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) chipped in with five kills and six digs.
Rowan returns home on Tuesday, September 28 for a conference match against Kean University at 7 p.m.
