YORK, PA – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of the Spartan Best Western Westgate Invitational on Friday. The Profs defeated Muhlenberg College, 3-0 and lost to St. Mary’s College (MD), 3-0.

The tournament continues at York College (PA) on Saturday, September 25. Rowan (6-2) plays Virginia Wesleyan College at noon. The Profs will play a second match that is to be determined.

The set scores against Muhlenberg (1-11) were 25-17, 26-24 and 25-8. Outside hitter Katie Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) totaled 11 kills, five digs and three service aces. Middle blocker Krissy Collins (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) compiled six kills and seven blocks. Opposite Megan Mondelli (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added six kills. Defensive specialist Casey Grasso (fr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and libero Lauren Ruffalo (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had 11 and nine digs respectively. Setter Kelsey Donovan (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) registered 22 assists, 13 digs and two service aces.

Against St. Mary’s (8-4), the set scores were 25-12, 25-12 and 25-12. Havlicek posted eight kills, five digs and two aces. Ruffalo contributed with 12 digs. Donovan tallied 15 assists and five digs.
