MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team defeated Montclair State University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Tuesday night. The set scores were 25-10, 25-19 and 25-15.
The Profs improve to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Red Hawks have a 2-13 overall record and a 1-1 NJAC mark. Rowan was led by setter Kelsey Donovan (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) with 37 assists, seven digs and two service aces. Middle blocker Dakota Oeskovie (fr. Pine Beach, NJ/Toms River S.) and outside hitter Katie Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) each had nine kills. Havlicek posted a .500 hitting percentage.
Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) added eight kills. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) compiled 15 digs, while defensive specialist Sarah Betancourt (jr. Harrington, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) had 10. Opposite Megan Mondelli (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne) and middle blocker Kirstin Sciolaro (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with seven kills apiece.
For Montclair State, outside hitter Marta Topor (fr. Bogota, NJ/Bogota) registered six kills. Libero Kaitlyn Irwin (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) collected 18 digs. Outside hitter Alyssa Batiste (so. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) accumulated 10 assists, six digs and two service aces. Defensive specialist Kristen Bronowich (sr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) chipped in with four kills and eight digs.
Rowan travels to the Spartan Best Western Westgate Invitational in York, PA on Friday-Saturday, September 24-25. On Friday, Rowan plays Muhlenberg College at 3 p.m. and St. Mary’s College (MD) at 7 p.m. The Profs face Virginia Wesleyan College at noon on Saturday.
