EWING, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s track and field teams both took third place at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Saturday. Sean Biehn was named the Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the meet and Dan Lisa was chosen the Male Rookie of the Year. The conference meet was held at The College of New Jersey.
Biehn (sr. Edgewater Park, NJ/Burlington City) won the javelin with a throw of 214’ 6” (65.38 meters). He broke the conference championships record and recorded a NCAA automatic (205’ 1”, 62.50 meters). The old mark was 206’ 1” (62.82 meters) by Rowan’s Ed Colleton in 1999. Previously, Biehn had a NCAA provisional with 204’ 1” (62.20 meters) at the Princeton Elite Meet (May 1).
Sean Corey (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) came in second in the javelin (203’ 5”, 62.0 meters) followed by Matt Tholis (so. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) and Dan Lisa (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) who were third (199’ 1”, 60.68 meters) and fourth (197’ 4”, 60.14 meters) respectively. Anthony Ruggeri (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) finished sixth (193’ 4”, 58.94 meters). Corey, Tholis, Lisa and Ruggeri all had throws that were NCAA provisionals (189’ 7”, 57.80 meters). At the beginning of the season, Corey recorded an automatic (215’ 3”, 65.61 meters) at the Wake Forest Open (Mar. 19). Tholis recorded a better provisional (203’ 2”, 61.93 meters) at the Rowan Open (Apr. 9). It was the first provisional toss for Lisa and Ruggeri.
Mark Lisa (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) won the long jump with a distance of 23’ (7.01 meters). Pierre James (fr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) took second place in the shot put. He threw 48’ 9” (14.86 meters). James also had a seventh place in the discus with 136’ 1” (41.48 meters).
The women captured first through third in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was the winner in 11:20.48. Lisa Jones (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) came in second (12:03.49) and Danielle Czohla (so. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) was third (12:18.71). Peacock finished fifth in the 800 meters (2:20.76) and Czohla was fifth in the 5000 meters (20:28.03).
Tiffany Chamberlain (fr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) was the winner (1:04.77) in the 400 meter hurdles. Ashley White (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) won the 5000 meters (19:10.55) and Liz Guarini (jr. Steinertville, NJ/Steinert) took third (19:29.90). Jenn Rawls (fr. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) took third place (4:51.78) in the 1500 meters. Sylvia Mosley (so. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) finished third (12.79) in the 100 meters.
Laura O’Mara (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) had a third place (40:30.50) in the 10,000 meters. In the 200 meters, Amirah Muneer (so. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) was third (26.34) followed by Mosley fourth (26.80). Muneer also came in fourth (1:00.57) in the 400 meters. Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) had fourth places in the 100 (15.28) and 400 (1:07.73) meter hurdles.
In the men's 10,000 meters, Stephen Mennitt (fr. Edison, NJ/Edison) came in third (34:10.03) while Jeff Terebey (jr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and Brian Quilty (jr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) were fifth (34:36.92) and sixth (35:00.94) respectively. Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) was fourth (4:10.49) in the 1500 meters followed by Mike Carotenuto (fr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) fifth (4:11.06).
The women’s 4x400 meter relay had a winning time of 4:04.87 and the 4x100 meter relay took second place in 48.73. Nisbett, Christina Huynh (fr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany), Beverlee Brownlee (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) and Muneer made up the 4x400 relay. The 4x100 included Heidi DeGuzman (so. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken), Muneer, Brownlee and Mosley.
The men’s 4x100 meter relay had a fourth place (43.29) with Josh McGriff (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central), Taylor Purdue (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.), Jayce Maxwell (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) and Brandon Taylor (fr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown). The 4x400 meter relay took fifth place in 3:26.25. Purdue, Maxwell, McGriff and Daniel Collier (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) were on the relay.
In the high jump, Giuseppe Mineo (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) tied for sixth (6’ 0”, 1.83 meters). Taylor finished seventh (11.20) in the 100 meters (11.20) and was ninth in the 200 meters (23.43). Benjamin Bradley (jr. Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) took seventh (57.47) in the 400 meter hurdles. Maxwell was eighth (50.44) in the 400 meters. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Matt Angelow (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) and John Fessler (jr. Rancocas, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) were eighth (10:55.70) and ninth (11:04.09) respectively. Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) took ninth place (2:03.57) in the 800 meters.
Joy Hanke (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) finished seventh (43:15.91) in the women's 10000 meters. In the 1500 meters, Raneeka Doharty (so. Orange, NJ/Orange) was sixth (5:02.99) while Alli Catenacci (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) were seventh (5:13.10) and eighth (5:13.69) respectively. Eileen O’Mara also came in seventh in the 5000 meters (20:49.31). Huynh took eighth place (1:01.32) in the 400 meters and Brownlee was ninth (1:01.52). In the 800 meters, Rawls and Huynh were eighth (2:27.73) and ninth (2:29.77) respectively.
Rowan will have limited teams competing on Monday, May 10 at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet that starts at 5 p.m.
