Women Take Third; Men Finish Fourth at CTC Championships

CENTER VALLEY, PA – The Rowan University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) Championships on Saturday-Sunday, April 17-18. The women’s team finished third among 17 teams and the men’s team took fourth out of 16 schools.

Jena Peacock (so. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) won the women’s 1500 meters with a time of 4:44.29. Tiffany Chamberlain (fr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) was the winner in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.66). She also came in second in the 100 meter hurdles (15.24).

Ashley White (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) captured second place in the 5000 meters (19:02.58). Laura O’Mara (sr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was second (39:46.97) in the 10000 meters and Joy Hanke (fr. Cranbury, NJ/Cranbury) followed fourth (40:34.06). Amirah Muneer (so. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) took third in the 400 meters (1:01.29) and fifth in the 200 meters (26.68). Heidi DeGuzman (so. Central Islip, NY/Pennsauken) placed fourth in the 100 meters (12.64) and was sixth in the 200 meters (26.95).

Danielle Czohla (so. Lafayette, NJ/High Point Reg.) came in third place in the 3000 meter steeplechase (12:23.54). In the 100 meter hurdles, Jacqui Nisbett (jr. Woodbury, NJ/Woodbury) and Rose Johnson (so. Willingboro, NJ/Holy Cross) were third (15.45) and seventh (16.42) respectively. Nisbett took fourth (1:08.02) in the 400 meter hurdles, followed by Johnson 8th (1:10.88). Raneeka Doharty (so. Orange, NJ/Orange) placed fifth in the 1500 meters (5:11.05). Heather Carbone (jr. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) came in fifth in the heptathlon (2545 points).

Sylvia Mosley (so. Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) finished sixth (12.96) and eighth (27.03) in the 100 and 200 meters respectively. Beverlee Brownlee (fr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) had a seventh place in the 400 meters (1:03.88) and was ninth in the 200 meters (27.16). Christina Huynh (fr. Lake Hiawatha, NJ/Parsippany) captured sixth (2:27.52) in the 800 meters and Eileen O’Mara (so. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) was ninth (2:31.22).

In the field events, Nisbett placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 15’ 11” (4.85 meters). Johnson tied for 10th in the high jump with 4’ 9.75” (1.47 meters). Vicky Tench (fr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) took 10th in the hammer throw with a toss of 106’ 8” (32.52 meters).

The women’s 4x800 meter relay finished second in 10:08.32, while the 4x400 meter relay was fifth (4:14.82). Eileen O’Mara, Alli Catenacci (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.), Huynh and Peacock made up the 4x800 meter relay, while Nisbett, Brownlee, Muneer and Chamberlain were on the 4x400 meter relay.

Matt Tholis (so. Montgomery, NJ/Montgomery) won the javelin with a throw of 179’ 7” (54.75 meters). Anthony Rugerri (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) was third (169’ 4”, 51.62 meters) and Sean Corey (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) followed fourth (165’ 3”, 50.36 meters). Pierre James (fr. Somerset, NJ/Franklin) was the winner in the discus with a distance of 140’ 11” (42.95 meters). He also placed fifth in the shot put with 48’ 1.75” (14.67 meters).

Mark Lisa (so. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) had a second place in the long jump with a distance of 21’ 7.5” (6.59 meters). Adam Diekewicz (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 11’ 11.75” (3.65 meters). Brian Makinson (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tied for ninth in the high jump (5’ 9.75”, 1.77 meters).

Eric DuBois (so. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) captured third place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:09.67. Jeff Terebey (jr. Shamong, NJ/Shawnee) and Brian Quilty (jr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) were fourth (33:40.95) and fifth (33:49.57) respectively in the 10000 meters. Kevin Gauntt (sr. Marlton, NJ/Seneca) took fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.18) and seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (58.95).

Jayce Maxwell (so. Toms River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) came in fifth (51.89) in the 400 meters followed by Taylor Purdue (fr. Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Twp.) eighth (52.26). Jake McCormack (so. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) finished sixth in the 5000 meters (15:51.68) and Brandon Taylor (fr. Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown) was seventh in the 100 meters (11.44). John Fessler (jr. Rancocas, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) and Matt Angelow (jr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) were eighth (10:45.06) and ninth (10:48.06) respectively in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Mike Carotenuto (fr. Port Monmouth, NJ/Middletown N.) placed ninth in the 1500 meters (4:16.03). 

The men’s 4x800 meter relay had a second place (8:08.96) and the 4x100 meter relay was third (44.50). The 4x800 meter relay was comprised of Nick Huddy (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.), Daniel Collier (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), Carotenuto and DuBois. Purdue, Josh McGriff (fr. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), Cody High (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) and Taylor ran on the 4x100 meter relay.

The women’s track and field team will compete at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, PA on Thursday, April 22 at 8 a.m. The men’s team travels to the Penn Relays on Friday, April 23 at 8 a.m.
