Rowan Splits Two More Games on Spring Trip

KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team shut out Skidmore College (NY), 3-0 and lost to Anderson University (IN), 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Profs are playing at the Rebel Spring Games on their spring break.

Lefty Michelle Black (fr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) pitched a complete game for the shutout against Skidmore. Black (3-2) scattered six hits and had three strikeouts. Left fielder Casey Roselle (jr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) was two for two at the plate with two runs scored. Catcher Steph Taraschi (sr. Mt. Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) drove in two runs with a double. Second baseman Jenna DiDonato (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) contributed with one hit (two at bats) and scored one run.

For Skidmore (4-4), third baseman Christina Gargiso and designated player Carol Brown each totaled two hits in three trips to the plate. Catcher Lauren Dinsdale and shortstop Caitlin Ketcham added one hit apiece. Pitcher Sam Crose gave up six hits and three earned runs while striking out five batters.

The Profs got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Roselle and DiDonato both reached base with a single. With two outs, Taraschi’s double sent home Roselle and DiDonato. Rowan’s third run came in the fifth inning. Roselle singled and stole second base. She scored on a groundout with designated player Ashley Landi (jr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) at bat.

In the second game, Anderson (3-4) held Rowan to four hits. Monica Crowe pitched a complete game and recorded 10 strikeouts. Center fielder Megan Ream registered two hits (two at bats) and the winning RBI. Left fielder Jami Delagrange and shortstop Johnna Rebenack chipped in with one hit apiece (three at bats). Third baseman Katy Ogden had two hits in two at bats and one run scored.

For the Profs (7-5), Roselle contributed with two hits (two at bats). Shortstop Ashley Minch (so. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) and right fielder Heidi Smith (sr. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) each added a hit. Right hander Jamie Minix (so. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) took the loss.

Anderson scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth. Ogden started the inning with a single and moved to second on a walk. Ream scored Ogden with a single.

Rowan will play its last two games of the Florida trip on Friday, March 19. The Profs face St. Norbert College (WI) at 9 a.m. followed by Hood College (MD) at 11 a.m.
