Rowan Wins 56-47 Over Visiting TCNJ

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 56-47 over conference opponent The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night.

Forward Michelle Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) led the Profs with 15 points and six rebounds. Guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 10 points and guard Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) followed with nine. Forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) grabbed six boards.

Rowan is 14-7 overall and 7-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. TCNJ has a 12-10 record with a 5-5 conference mark. In the first meeting this season, Rowan defeated TCNJ, 68-60 in Ewing.

For the Lions, forward Kelsey Kutch (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and forward Candace Vigo (fr. New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick Health Science Tech.) each totaled nine points. Guard Jessica Imhof (so. Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) came off the bench for eight points. Guard Keri Washington (jr. Ewing, NJ/Pennington Prep) pulled down a game-high 11 boards.

Rowan started the second half down by seven points (26-19). The Profs reeled off 10 unanswered points to take the lead (29-26) at 16:28. Catanzariti started the come back with a jumper (19:52) and guard Danielle Rohe (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) followed with a basket (17:59). Lamey made a layup and foul shot (17:00) that tied the score at 26. She nailed a three-pointer (16:28) that gave the Profs the lead that they would keep for the remainder of the game.

Jennings’ layup at 11:07 made the score 38-31. The Lions pulled within three points (42-39) after Imhof had a three-point play (9:05). Rowan went back up by eight points (48-40) on a foul shot by guard Ashley Russo (fr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) with 6:03 remaining. She had a layup at 4:44 for a nine point advantage (52-43). Kutch’s layup cut the deficit to five points (52-47) with 2:51 left. Rowan sealed the win by making four of six free throws to end the game. Lala contributed with three and Lamey had one.

TCNJ started the first half with a 10-4 run in 3:21. Kutch scored four points while guard Stephanie Prall (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and Washington each had a three-pointer. Rowan answered with five straight points by Catanzariti to trail by one (10-9) at 15:20. Lala had a layup at 13:25 that made the score 12-11. The Lions built an 11 point lead (22-11) with 10 straight points that ended at 4:41. Rowan pulled within five (22-17) on a basket by Rohe at 2:30. Forward Hannah Tait’s (so. Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) layup at the 15 second mark ended the first period scoring (26-19).

Next, Rowan plays at Kean University on Saturday, February 6 at 1 p.m.
