Women's Basketball Wins 68-59 at Ramapo College

MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 68-59 at Ramapo College in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

It was the first loss for the Roadrunners who have a 5-1 record with a 0-1 NJAC mark. The Profs are 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference. Forward Lauren Gregg (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) scored a game-high 27 points. She also grabbed six rebounds. Guard Gina Cantanzariti (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 14 points and seven boards. Forward Brittany Baum (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and she added nine points.

For Ramapo, forward Lindsey Gripenburg (jr. Bloomingdale, NJ/Butler) registered 20 points, five rebounds and five steals. Guard Alexa Ryan (so. Hazlet, NJ/Hazlet) followed with 19 points and seven boards. Guard Faith Flannery (so. Keansburg, NJ/Keansburg) totaled nine points, five rebounds and six assists.

In the second half, Ramapo was ahead 36-32 at 17:02. Gregg tied the score with a three (16:54) and a foul shot (16:06). Ryan nailed a three-pointer (15:32) to retake the lead (39-36). She had another three (12:35) and Flannery made two foul shots (11:22) for a four-point advantage (47-43). The Profs scored 10 unanswered points to lead 53-47 at 8:28 and they never trailed again for the remainder of the contest. Guard Alissa Lamey (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Baum each contributed with three points and forward Erin Farrell (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Cantanzariti had two apiece.

The Roadrunners pulled within four points (55-51) on a jumper by guard Samantha Maggio (fr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne). Guard Ashley Russo (so. Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence) put Rowan up by 10 (65-55) with a basket at 3:22. Gripenburg’s jumper cut the deficit to six points (65-59) with 2:04 remaining. The Profs made three of four free throws to end the game. Forward Lauren Creel (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) hit the first two (:29) and Baum had one (:23). Gregg scored 13 points and Catanzariti chipped in with 10 in the second half. Ryan compiled 13 points for Ramapo.

The score was tied six times in the first half. The last one was at 28 with 1:27 remaining after a jumper by Baum. Flannery made the first of two foul shots (1:14) and Gripenburg added a basket (:35) for a three-point advantage (31-28) at the break. Earlier Ramapo was ahead 22-14 at 9:56 on Gripenburg’s jumper. The eight points was the Roadrunners biggest lead of the period. The Profs answered with a 10-0 run to go up by two points (24-22) with 4:21 remaining. Gregg made five of the 10 points. She ended the half with 14 points while Gripenburg scored 18.

Next week, Rowan travels to Neumann University on Saturday, December 11 for a 2 p.m. nonconference game.
