ASTON, PA – The Rowan University women’s basketball team defeated host Neumann University, 76-52 in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon. It was the Profs’ third straight win.
Rowan (5-3) had four players that scored in double figures. Forward Lauren Gregg (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) led the way with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Ashley Russo (so. Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence) followed with a career-high 16 points. Forward Brittany Baum (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) contributed with 12 points and a career-mark of 12 boards. Guard Alissa Lamey (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) chipped in with 10 points.
For Neumann (5-5), guard Katie Young (sr. Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) scored 14 points and pulled down 15 rebounds. Guard Krista DiRomualdo (sr. Eddystone, PA/Archbishop Prendergast) totaled nine points and six assists. Forward Sam Wilson (fr. Aston, PA/Sun Valley) added eight points.
The score was tied four times in the first half. The last one was at 17 after two foul shots by Young with 5:53 remaining. The Profs scored 10 straight points to lead 27-17 at 3:29. Russo made seven points in the surge and Baum added three. With 2:25 on the clock, Russo’s layup made the score 29-20. Rowan had a five point advantage (31-26) at the intermission.
In the second period, Lamey’s three-pointer at 15:42 put Rowan up 38-33. Young answered with a three (15:30) and a jumper (15:11) that tied the score at 38. Rowan responded with a 7-0 run that ended at 12:32. Neumann trailed by three points (45-42) after a layup by guard Erica Marvel (fr. Oxford, PA/Oxford). Russo answered with two straight baskets at 10:21 and 9:53 for a seven point lead (49-42). Marvel’s layup made the score 55-46 at 7:32. Rowan stretched the lead to 21 points (67-46) at 3:25 after scoring 12 straight points. Gregg registered six points while Baum and Russo added four and two points respectively.
Forward Courtney Hulsart (so. South Amboy, NJ/South Amboy) increased the lead to 23 points (71-48) after two free throws with 2:39 left. She had a layup at the 35 second mark that made the score 75-52. Guard Julie Klock (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) sank one of two foul shots at the seven second mark for the final score.
