POMONA, NJ – Top seeded Richard Stockton College defeated the fourth seed Rowan University, 3-0 in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Thursday night. The set scores were 25-15, 25-22 and 25-15.
The Ospreys improve to 24-7 overall. The Profs finish the season with a 17-14 record. In the other semifinal match, the second seed Ramapo College had a 3-0 win over the third seed Rutgers-Camden. In the first round on Tuesday, Rutgers-Camden topped the sixth seed Montclair State University, 3-0 and Rowan had a 3-1 victory over the fifth seed William Paterson University.
Richard Stockton will host Ramapo in the final on Saturday, November 6 at 1 p.m. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Outside hitter Kasey Hennecke (fr. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and middle hitter Stephanie Warner (so. Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley) led the Ospreys with nine kills apiece. Opposite Nicole Serekian (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) and outside hitter Christine Velott (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) each had seven kills. Velott also compiled 13 digs and three service aces. Libero Christine Astarita (sr. Selden, NY/Newfield) contributed with 20 digs. Setter Laura Hausman (jr. Bethlehem, PA/Catasauqua) dished 28 assists.
For Rowan, middle blocker Nikki Binetti (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) tallied eight kills and three blocks. Middle blocker Krissy Collins (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) followed with six kills and three blocks. Setter Nikki Ciandella (fr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) accumulated 16 assists. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) totaled 13 digs, while opposite Megan Mondelli (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) had 11.
