Gregg Scores 29 Points in Rowan's 86-71 Win at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, PA – Forward Lauren Gregg scored 29 points to lead Rowan University over host Delaware Valley College, 86-71 on Tuesday night.

Gregg (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) was 11 for 14 from the floor with two three-pointers and five of six at the free throw line. She totaled four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Gregg also blocked two shots.

Guards Ashley Russo (so. Lawrence, NJ/Lawrence) and Gina Cantanzariti (sr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 14 points apiece. Russo added a career-high six assists and five rebounds. Catanzariti grabbed six boards and dished four assists. Guard Lauren Creel (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) was in double figures with 10 points.

The Profs improve to 2-2 on the season while the Aggies are 2-2 overall. For Delaware Valley, forward/center Emily Soper (so. Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) registered 25 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Guard Brittany Battinieri (sr. Eddystone, PA/Ridley) collected 21 points. Guard Melissa Weil (jr. Langhorne, PA/Harriton) and forward Jackie Shunkwiler (jr. Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) added nine and eight points respectively.

The score was tied three times in the first half before Rowan took the lead for the remainder of the game. The last one (12-12) came at 12:29. Battinieri knotted the score with a three-pointer. The Profs responded with three straight baskets for a six point advantage (18-12) at 10:35. Creel made two layups and Russo followed with one. Battineri’s three at 9:22 cut the deficit to two points (21-19). Rowan had four points to lead 25-19 with 7:36 left.

Russo’s layup at 6:35 put the Profs up by six points (27-21). Rowan pulled away with a 14-0 run for a 20 point advantage (41-21) with 1:44 left. Gregg scored seven of the 14 points. At the half, the Profs were ahead 43-29. Gregg ended the period with 15 points while Battinieri collected 14.

In the second stanza, Gregg nailed a three-pointer at 15:23 and the Profs led 56-34. The Aggies trailed by 17 points (72-55) after two foul shots by guard Sarah Innerst (fr. Red Lion, PA/Red Lion). Catanzariti nailed a jumper (5:30) for the Profs’ biggest lead of the game, 23 points (78-55). Delaware Valley was down by 15 points after Battinieri’s free throw with 3:57 on the clock.

Next week, Rowan hosts Alvernia University in its home opener on Monday, November 29 at 7 p.m.
