Rowan Defeats William Paterson, 3-1 in NJAC First Round

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team had a 3-1 victory over William Paterson University in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday night. The set scores were 18-25, 25-22, 25-17 and 25-22.

The fourth seeded Profs improve to 17-13. The Pioneers, the fifth seed, have a 20-6 record. In the other first round match on Tuesday, the third seed Rutgers-Camden topped the sixth seed Montclair State University, 3-0.

The semifinals are on Thursday, November 4 at 7 p.m. Rowan will play top seed Richard Stockton College, while Rutgers-Camden is at the second seed Ramapo College. The finals are on Saturday, November 6 at the highest remaining seed. The NJAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.

Rowan was led by middle blocker Krissy Collins (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) with 13 kills. Outside hitter Katie Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) followed with 11 kills and seven digs. Middle blocker Nikki Binetti (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) added eight kills and five blocks. Opposite Megan Mondelli (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with seven kills and 14 digs.

Setter Nikki Ciandella (fr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) compiled 22 assists and 15 digs. Setter Kelsey Donovan (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) totaled 16 assists and eight digs. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tallied a team-high 19 digs. Defensive specialists Casey Grasso (fr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) and Sarah Betancourt (jr. Harrington, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) had 12 and 10 digs respectively.

For William Paterson, outside hitter Kim Runge (jr. Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Demarest) registered 13 kills, 17 digs and three service aces. Opposite Michelle Leeder (sr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) posted 12 kills and 19 digs, while setter/outside hitter Megan Maher (jr. Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) accumulated 11 kills, 17 assists and 21 digs. Setter Jillian Bronowich (sr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) chipped in with 15 assists and 12 digs. Libero Michelle Mitchell (so. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 20 digs.
