CHESTER, PA – The Widener University women’s volleyball team won 3-0 over visiting Rowan University on Thursday night. The set scores were 26-24, 25-16 and 25-18.

The Pride has an overall record of 17-11 while Rowan is 14-9 on the season. Outside hitter Angela DiMaria (so. Warrington, Pa/Archbishop Wood) led Widener with 12 kills. Right side Nicole Merton (jr. Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) and middle blocker Shauna Phillips (so. Dallas, PA/Dallas) contributed with eight and seven kills respectively.

Setter Jamie Ballew (jr. Media, PA/Penncrest) accumulated 30 assists and 16 digs. Libero Meghan Spence (so. Havertown, PA/Haverford) was the dig leader with 22. Defensive specialist Stephanie Schutt (fr. Tucson, AZ/Tucson) collected 12 digs and defensive specialist Erin Gravelle (sr. Media, PA/Cardinal O’Hara) followed with 11. Middle blocker Heather Long (fr. Ephrata, PA/Conestoga Valley) recorded four blocks while Phillips and Ballew had three apiece.

For Rowan, outside hitter Katie Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) totaled 10 kills for a .321 hitting percentage. Setter Nikki Ciandella (fr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) registered 21 assists. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) collected 14 digs. Defensive specialist Casey Grasso (fr. Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) added 11 digs and opposite Megan Mondelli (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) had 10.

Rowan travels to Ursinus College on Saturday, October 23 for a tri-match. The Profs play Ursinus at 11 a.m. followed by a match against Stevenson University at 1 p.m.
