Women's Soccer Defeats Visiting Salisbury, 2-1

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team defeated Salisbury University, 2-1 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.

The Profs have a 13-1-1 record with a five-game win streak. This week, Rowan is ranked 23rd in the nation and tied for third in the South Atlantic Region. Salisbury drops to 7-9 on the season.

Rowan scored its two goals in the first half. Forward Veronica Rhea (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) had the first one at 24:49. Rhea had a pass from back Christine Foy (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). At 40:17, back Miranda Donnian (fr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) headed in a free kick and Foy had the assist.

Salisbury’s lone goal came at 62:42. Back Krista Fassio (so. Perry Hall, MD/John Carroll) knocked the ball in on the Profs’ goal line after a free kick by back Erin Mooney (so. Solomons, MD/Patuxent).

Rowan ended the game with 15 shots and Salisbury took six. Prof goalkeeper Jillian Brannan (jr. Saddle Brook, NJ/Saddle Brook) made two saves. For the Sea Gulls, goalie Melissa Orgera (so. Arnold, MD/Broadneck) played the first half and turned away three shots. Goalie Lauren West (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearvew Reg.) had one save in the second period. West also faced a Prof penalty kick that hit the left post.

Rowan travels to Kean University on Saturday, October 23 for a 6 p.m. conference game.
