NEW YORK, NY – The New York University men’s soccer team defeated Rowan University, 3-0 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night. The game was played at Gaelic Park.

NYU improves to 9-2-3, while Rowan has a 4-11-2 record. The Violets are ranked sixth in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Division III East Region Rankings.

At 38:13 in the first period, midfielder Chris Ramirez (fr. Milltown, NJ/East Brunswick) kicked the ball to the underside of the crossbar into the net. Forward Kyle Green (so. Dallas, TX/Jesuit College Prep) and midfielder Niki Chow (jr. Los Gatos, CA/Los Gatos) each picked up an assist.

In the second half, midfielder Matt Newman (jr. Leawood, KS/Rockhurst (MO)) added a goal at 60:39 and back Danny Weisbaum (fr. Baltimore, MD/Pikesville) had the assist. Green knocked in a pass from forward Ian Cassel (fr. Hudson, OH/Western Reserve Academy) at 79:07 to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Violets took 26 shots, while the Profs had six. Goalkeeper Matt Stieve (sr. Des Plaines, IL/Maine West) made three saves for NYU. It was his sixth shutout of the season. Rowan goalkeeper Charlie Cunliffe (sr. Lakewood, NJ/Lakewood) played the first 68:49 and stopped five shots. Goalkeeper Michael Fanz-Huster (so. Waterford, NJ/Hammonton) made one save in 21:11.

Rowan hosts conference opponent Kean University on Friday, October 22 at 7 p.m.
