NEWARK, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team had a 3-1 victory over Rutgers-Newark in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Tuesday night. The set scores were 25-13, 15-25, 25-21 and 25-14.
Rowan improves to 14-8 overall and 4-3 in the conference. Rutgers-Newark has an 8-15 overall record with a 1-7 NJAC mark.
The Profs were led by outside hitter Katie Havlicek (so. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and middle blocker Nikki Binetti (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) with 11 kills apiece. Binetti posted a .474 hitting percentage and Havlicek followed at .391. Middle blocker Krissy Collins (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) registered 10 kills and six service aces.
Opposite Megan Mondelli (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added 10 digs and five aces. Defensive specialist Sarah Betancourt (jr. Harrington, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) compiled 10 digs and four service aces. Libero Lauren Ruffalo (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tallied 12 digs. Setter Nikki Ciandella (fr. Hoboken, NJ/Roselle Catholic) totaled 39 assists, eight digs and two aces.
For the Scarlet Raiders, outside hitter Toni Moppert (jr. Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Pascack Hills) posted seven kills and nine digs. Right side Stephanie Touzan (so. West New York, NJ/Memorial) contributed with six kills, six digs and 10 service aces. Libero Rose Anna Beljour (sr. Hackensack, NJ/Hackensack) had 13 digs and three aces. Middle blocker Rachel Witt (so. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) produced five kills and three blocks.
Rowan travels to Widener University on Thursday, October 21 for a 7 p.m. nonconference match.
