SEWELL, NJ – The Rowan University men’s and women’s cross country teams won the Collegiate Track Conference Championships on Saturday. Both the men and women were first out of 12 schools. The championships were held at Gloucester County College.
The women had a score of 23 points. Jena Peacock (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Our Lady of Mercy Academy) was the individual winner with a time of 18:30 over the 5K course. Jenn Rawls (so. Runnemede, NJ/Highland Reg.) came in fourth (19:59) followed by Gabby Prendergast (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) fifth (19:59).
Rounding out the scoring were Meghan Borz (fr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) sixth (20:04) and Joy Hanke (so. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) seventh (20:09). The Profs’ sixth and seventh runners were Grace Kaler (fr. Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany Hills) and Samantha Stapleton (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) who were eighth (20:11) and ninth (20:17) respectively.
For the men, Eric DuBois (jr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) finished third. He ran a time of 26:27 in the 8K race. Jeff Terebey (sr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) took seventh (26:50) and Jake McCormack (jr. Cliffwood, NJ/Matawan Reg.) followed eighth (26:59).
Brian Quilty (sr. Brick, NJ/Saint Rose) was 16th (27:28) and Stephen Hoffman (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) came in 20th (27:44). They were the fourth and fifth runners to complete the Profs’ scoring. Rowan finished with 54 points. Jeff Tauriello (fr. Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park) took 26th (28:06) and Will Smith (fr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was 44th (28:46).
Rowan has a week off before the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, October 30 at Richard Stockton College. The women’s race starts at 10:30 a.m. followed by the men’s at 11:15 a.m.
