GLASSBORO, NJ – Guard Melissa Beyruti scored 24 points to lead Kean University to an 85-47 win over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.

The Cougars improve to 14-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Kean has a 14 game win streak. The Profs are 7-5 overall with a 1-1 NJAC mark. All of Beyruti’s (sr. Union City, NJ/Union Hill) points came on three-pointers. She was eight for 14 from beyond the arc. Guard Naimah Clemons (fr. Newark, NJ/Newark Tech) totaled 15 points, six steals and five assists. Forward Danielle Brown (sr. North Brunswick, NJ/St. Peter’s Prep) posted a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Tiffany Patrick (jr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked four shots.

For Rowan, forward Amanda Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) tallied 10 points and eight rebounds. Guards Danielle Rohe (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) and Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) both scored seven points. Catanzariti also pulled down seven boards and had five steals. Guard Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) dished five assists.

The score was tied (3-3) at 18:12 in the first half. Kean pulled away with a 13-4 run that ended at 10:34. Brown compiled seven points and Beyruti had six. The Cougars led 22-14 with 5:48 left. Kean closed out the period with a 23-2 surge for a 29 point (45-16) advantage at the intermission. Beyruti scored 12 of the 23 points with four three-pointers. She led all first half scorers with 18 points, while Brown followed with nine.

The Cougars were ahead 51-21 at 15:48 in the second stanza. Kean reeled off 16 straight points to push the lead to 46 (67-21) with 12:17 remaining. It marked the Cougars’ biggest advantage of the game. Beyruti totaled six points and Clemons added five.

Rowan travels to conference opponent Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, January 9 at 6 p.m.
