CAMDEN, NJ – Forward Amanda Jennings scored a career-high 30 points to lead Rowan University over Rutgers-Camden, 84-53 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
Jennings (sr. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and set another career mark with seven assists. Forward Michelle Lala (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Guard Gina Catanzariti (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) contributed with 13 points. Guard Danielle Rohe (sr. Dumont, NJ/Dumont) totaled seven boards and guard Alissa Lamey (so. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) dished six assists.
Rowan has an overall record of 12-6 with a 6-2 conference mark. Rutgers-Camden drops to 2-15 overall and 0-8 in the NJAC. For the Scarlet Raptors, guard Casey Crenny (so. Blackwood, NJ/Camden Catholic) scored 14 points. Guard Catherine Tadeja (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) came off the bench for 10 points. Guard Samantha Bragg (jr. Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) added nine points, five rebounds and five steals.
The Profs started the game with a 13-5 run in 5:10. Jennings and Lala each contributed with four points, Rohe hit a three-pointer and Catanzariti had a jumper. Bragg made two foul shots at 13:31 and the Scarlet Raptors trailed by six. Rowan followed with 12 straight points to lead 25-7 with 9:14 remaining. Forward Maggie Gies (jr. Mt. Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) had two free throws for a 19 point advantage (30-11) at 6:05. Rowan was ahead by 20 points (37-17) after guard Allie Bassetti’s (so. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) foul shot with 3:07 left. Rutgers-Camden ended the period with a 12-1 surge to pull within nine points (38-29). Crenny and Tadeja each registered four points. Jennings scored 12 first half points and accumulated eight rebounds.
In the second stanza, Rowan was ahead 38-31 (19:17) then pulled away with a 15-4 run to lead by 18 points (53-35) at 12:52. Jennings scored six points, Catanzariti followed with five and Lala had four. Tadeja’s jumper at 10:58 made the score 58-41. The Profs had 10 unanswered points for a 27 point advantage (68-41) with 7:18 left. Jennings and Catanzariti each contributed with two baskets and Lala added one. Rowan’s biggest lead of the game was 36 points (81-45) after a jumper by forward Erin Farrell (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) at the two minute mark.
This weekend, Rowan hosts conference opponent William Paterson University on Saturday, January 30 at 3 p.m. and Montclair State University plays at Rutgers-Camden at 1 p.m.
