GLASSBORO, NJ – The Richard Stockton College men’s basketball team defeated Rowan University, 85-72 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.
The Ospreys improve to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference. Rowan has a 12-5 record with a 3-3 NJAC mark. Forward Omar Smith (sr. Newark, NJ/Central) led Richard Stockton with 23 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Guard Pat Kelly (so. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) recorded 17 points, including five three-pointers. Guard Kai Massaquoi (jr. Lawnside, NJ/Haddon Heights) compiled 15 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Forward DiAndre Brown (so. Sicklerville, NJ/Camden County Tech) and guard Michael Farrow (jr. Whitesboro, NJ/Middle Twp.) each contributed with 10 points. Farrow also pulled down eight boards.
For Rowan, forward Steve Secula (so. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Forward Tyson Hartnett (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and guard Kendall White (fr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) registered 12 points apiece. White also had six rebounds and three steals. Guard Allen Pritchett (sr. Camden, NJ/Woodbury) added 10 points off the bench.
The Profs were ahead, 4-3 after a layup by White at 17:31 in the first period. The Ospreys went on an 11-2 run for an eight point advantage (14-6) at 14:42. Smith scored four points, while Kelly nailed a three-pointer. Secula recorded a layup at 10:43 to bring Rowan within seven (22-15). The Ospreys had a 16-5 surge over the next 4:44 to go up by 18 points (38-20). Smith and Massaquoi each scored four points in the run. Brown made a layup at 2:16 to push the advantage to 20 (47-27). The Profs closed out the half with seven straight points to make the score, 47-34 at the intermission. Hartnett registered five of the seven points.
In the second period, Richard Stockton guard Santini Lancioni (sr. Runnemede, NJ/Paul VI) nailed a three-pointer at 18:15 for a 14 point lead (50-36). Secula scored two baskets at 17:58 and 17:17 and center Derek Piccini (sr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) added a jumper (16:39) to cut the deficit to eight (50-42). Secula’s layup at 13:25 brought the Profs within five (54-49). The Ospreys had a 60-54 advantage at the 11 minute mark. Richard Stockton pulled away with a 13-5 run to go up by 14 (73-59) with 5:41 remaining. Smith scored four points, while Kelly and Brown each made a three-pointer. Massaquoi’s three-pointer at 2:47 pushed the lead to 16 (82-66). Rowan came within 11 after a layup by Pritchett (00:41). Kelly’s two free throws with 33 seconds left ended the scoring.
Rowan travels to New Jersey City University for a NJAC game on Saturday, January 23 at 4 p.m.
