GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team swept a conference doubleheader against Rutgers-Newark, 14-0 in five innings and 11-0 on Saturday.

Rowan has a 26-6 record with a 13-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) mark. The Profs are ranked first in the NCAA Atlantic Region. Rutgers-Newark drops to 5-27 overall and 0-14 in the conference.

Right-hander Jackie Sasko (sr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) pitched a no-hitter in the first game. Sasko (15-2) struck out eight batters and it was her eighth shutout on the season. Righty Stacy Cappiello (jr. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) took the loss on the mound.

Center fielder Kristina Brenner (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) led the Profs with two hits (two at bats), four RBIs, one run scored and a triple. Catcher Steph Taraschi (jr. Mt. Ephraim, NJ/Audubon) was three for three with three runs scored and one RBI. First baseman Nicki Veneziano (fr. Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) and third baseman Julie Leskanic (fr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) each contributed with two hits and two RBIs. Veneziano also had two runs scored and a double.

The Profs went up 3-0 in the second inning. Veneziano’s double plated Taraschi who reached base with a single. Shortstop Ashley Minch (fr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) drove in Veneziano with a triple.  Brenner's RBI single brought Minch home. Rowan then exploded for 11 runs in the third inning.

Right-hander Amanda Singer (so. Monmouth Jct., NJ/E. Brunswick) was the winning pitcher in the second contest. In seven innings, Singer (11-4) scattered three hits and compiled seven strikeouts. Righty Amber Affholter (jr. Freehold, NJ/Southgate Anderson (MI)) pitched seven innings for the Scarlet Raiders. Affholter (3-13) gave up nine hits.

Rowan designated player Ashley Landi (so. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) went two for three with three RBIs and a triple. Veneziano added two hits (four at bats), two runs scored and a double. Pinch hitter Jamie Parks (jr. Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.) went two for two with one RBI and one run scored. Leskanic and Brenner both had one hit and two runs scored.

For Rutgers-Newark, catcher Shannon Davis (so. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) went two for three. Left fielder Sam Weer (jr. Willingboro, NJ/Life Center Academy) contributed with one hit (three at bats).

The Profs got on the scoreboard with four runs in the second inning. Veneziano and Minch scored on wild pitches. Landi drove in two runs with a single. Rowan added one run in the third and fourth innings. In the third, Leskanic tripled to right center field and came home on a ground out. Landi’s triple in the fourth sent home second baseman Jenna DiDonato (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert). In the top of the seventh, the Profs were ahead 11-0 after scoring five runs.

Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, April 21 for a 3 p.m. NJAC doubleheader.
