WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University women’s volleyball team lost to William Paterson University, 3-0 in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday night. The set scores were 25-13, 25-19 and 25-22.
The fourth seed William Paterson (21-7) travels to number one Montclair State University
(13-15) for a semifinal match on Thursday, November 5 at 7 p.m. In the other semifinal match, the second seed Richard Stockton College (25-11) hosts the third seed Ramapo College (24-9) at 7 p.m. Ramapo defeated the sixth seed Rutgers-Camden, 3-0 in the first round.
Middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) led William Paterson with 14 kills, 12 digs, three blocks and two service aces. Outside hitter Megan Maher (so. Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) contributed with eight kills, 12 assists and 13 digs. Setter Jillian Bronowich (jr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) totaled 13 assists. Opposite Michelle Leeder (jr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) added 10 digs.
Rowan, the fifth seed, ends the season with a 13-17 record. This was the Profs’ 13th appearance in the NJAC Championship Tournament and third straight. Middle blocker Chelsea Bowman (sr. Penns Grove, NJ/Park Bible Academy) and outside hitter Katie Havlicek (fr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) registered eight and six kills respectively. Havlicek also totaled 12 digs while Bowman recorded three blocks. Setter Megan Mondelli (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) accumulated 16 assists and two service aces. Defensive specialist Sarah Betancourt (so. Harrington Park, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) compiled 10 digs.
