WAYNE, NJ – The William Paterson University women’s volleyball team defeated Rowan University, 3-1 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match on Tuesday night.
The Pioneers improve to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Rowan has a 6-11 record with a 0-4 NJAC mark. William Paterson won with set scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-21 and 25-21.
Middle hitter Kelly Helfrich (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) led the Pioneers with 21 kills and 11 digs. Setter/outside hitter Megan Maher (so. Wood-Ridge, NJ/Wood-Ridge) totaled 14 kills, 22 assists and 16 digs. Middle hitter Kelly Shaw (fr. Wallington, NJ/Wallington) recorded 11 kills. Setter Jillian Bronowich (jr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) tallied 22 assists. Opposite Michelle Leeder (jr. Ridgefield, NJ/Ridgefield Mem.) registered 13 digs, while opposite Amanda Mitchell (sr. Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) had 11.
For the Profs, outside hitter Katie Havlicek (fr. Midland Park, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) compiled 19 kills and 12 digs. Middle blocker Chelsea Bowman (sr. Penns Grove, NJ/Park Bible Academy) followed with 14 kills. Opposite Megan Mondelli (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) posted 10 kills, 10 digs and four service aces. Setter Chrissy McKay (sr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) accumulated 44 assists and 13 digs. Libero Casey Roselle (jr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and defensive specialist Sarah Betancourt (so. Harrington Park, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) had 13 and 10 digs respectively.
Rowan travels to Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA for the Hampton Inn Crusader Classic Invitational on Friday-Saturday, October 9-10. On Friday, Rowan plays Susquehanna at 4 p.m. and Richard Stockton College at 6 p.m. The Profs face York College (PA) at 1 p.m. and Montclair State University at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
