GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Veronica Rhea scored the game-winner with 7:34 remaining to give Rowan University a 3-2 victory over Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday.

Back Christine Foy (so. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) sent a pass down the field over the defense. Rhea (so. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) raced by the defenders and sent the ball into the back of the net.

The Profs, ranked 10th in this week’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America National Rankings, improve to 12-1-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference. Rowan has a nine game win streak. The Cougars have a 5-4-4 record with a 2-2-2 NJAC mark.

The score was tied, 1-1 after the first period. At 53:29 in the second half, Rhea scored from inside the box after forward Jess Babice (jr. Groveville, NJ/Steinert) centered her the ball. Kean forward Randi Vizoco (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) knocked in a cross from forward Danielle Esposito (so. Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) to tie the game (2-2) at the 67 minute mark.

In the first, Kean went ahead, 1-0 at 8:20 after a goal by midfielder Jenna Godwin (sr. Kingwood, NJ/Delaware Valley Reg.). Esposito found Godwin with a pass and she kicked it into the lower right corner of the net. Rhea’s first goal at 11:07 tied the score (1-1). Midfielder Evynn Wright (so. Marlton, NJ/Eastern Reg.) sent the ball to midfielder Christie Fink (so. Hamilton Square, NJ/Steinert). Fink immediately passed it to Rhea for the goal.

Kean took 14 shots and Rowan had 13. Goalkeeper Sarah Volkomer (sr. Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) made six saves for the Profs. Cougars’ goalkeeper Leandra Russo (jr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) stopped two shots.

Rowan travels to New Jersey City University for a NJAC game on Saturday, October 17 at 2 p.m.
