GENESEO, NY – The Rowan University men’s cross country team finished 12th at the NCAA Atlantic Regional and the women came in 20th place. The regional was held at Letchworth State Park on Saturday.
Erik Geisinger (sr. Marmora, NJ/Ocean City) was the Profs’ first runner to cross the finish line. He was 24th with a time of 26:30.8 over the 8,000 meter course. Geisinger will have to wait until Sunday to see if he qualified for the NCAA Championships on Saturday, November 18 at Voice of America Park in Mason, OH.
The top two teams in each regional advance to nationals. The NCAA committee selects 16 at-large teams for the NCAAs. The top seven men in each region who are not members of a qualifying team will go to the NCAA Championships.
Greg Kuczynski (so. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) took 48th place (27:01.4) while Dan Urban (sr. Clarksboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) was 66th (27:25.6). Also scoring were James Buinicky (fr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and Mike Rivera (so. Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) 110th (28:19.0) and 113th (28:22.6) respectively.
Laura Blittman (fr. Antioch, CA/Deer Valley) finished 103rd overall. She finished the 6,000 meters in 25:47.0. Katelyn Sammon (jr. Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) came in 110th (25:58.2) followed by Therese Jones (fr. Cinnamimson, NJ/Cinnaminson) 115th (26:05.3). Rounding out the top five were Laura O’Mara (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddon Twp.) 119th (26:10.7) and Jennifer Lippincott (fr. Magnolia, NJ/Gloucester) 126th (26:19.8).
New York University won the men’s team title and Cortland finished second. Matt DeShane from SUNY Plattsburgh took first place out of 230 individuals with a time of 25:10.0. For the women, SUNY Geneseo was first followed by The College of New Jersey second. Liz Montgomery from Geneseo finished in 21:17.4 to capture the individual title among 208 runners.
