Jordan Downes was named Rowan University’s head strength & conditioning coach in the Spring of 2025, bringing experience from both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels to the Profs.
 
In 2024, Downes was the assistant athletic director for sports performance at Rider University where he designed and coordinated the implementation the strength and conditioning program for the Broncs’ 21 varsity sports.
 
He joined Rider’s staff after serving as the director of sports performance at Widener University for two years. He was responsible for the design and execution of a comprehensive science-based sports training program for 15 of Widener’s 23 sports, including football, basketball and track & field. Downes worked with the school’s athletic training staff to develop rehabilitation and practices that led to injury prevention, while he provided nutritional guidance for the student-athletes.
 
Prior to that, he was the assistant performance coach at La Salle University. In addition to his duties of executing strength and conditioning programs , he prepared a nutrition station for athletes and taught lifting techniques and safety for all lifts/movement drills.
 
Downes began his career in college athletics at his alma mater, King’s College, by serving as the assistant strength and conditioning coach. In addition to developing comprehensive training programs for specific teams, he was the assistant director of the Intermeto Wellness Center at the college. He also served as the school’s NCAA Coordinator of Student-Athlete Success and Game Management and was a course instructor.
 
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from King’s in 2016, he earned his master’s degree in nutritional sciences. Downes is an NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is certified in United States Weightlifting Levels 1 and 2 (USAW1, USAW2).
