Scott Leacott is the winningest and longest-tenured coach in the history of the Rowan women’s soccer program, who enters the 2025 season for his 26th season with the Profs.
An All-American for the Rowan men’s soccer team in 1992, Leacott owns a 344-95-41 career head coaching record with the Profs. He has guided Rowan to 22 consecutive winning seasons, 17 appearances in the NCAA Tournament and four New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) titles (2022, 2016, 2015, 2008).
Leacott has seen many of his players earn All-Conference and All-Region honors, and has coached six All-Americans – Jess Babice (2010), Erika Suhl (2013), Emily Daigle (2015, 2017), Shelby Money (2018), Calista Burke (2022), and Emma DeMaise (2022). Babice was the first Prof to collect Academic All-America and All-America First Team honors in the same season, while Money was cited as a Scholar All-America in addition to earning All-America Second Team recognition. Burke earned an Academic All-American honor in 2022.
Last season, Rowan earned its second-straight NCAA Tournament bid as an at-large (its 13th under Leacott) en route to a 13-3-2 overall record. In 2023, the Profs earned the top-playoff seed in the NJAC Tournament, reaching the conference title game, and earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. 2022 saw the team win its fourth NJAC Title en route to a undefeated regular-season. The team went 14-1-4 overall and advanced to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament. Returning to action in 2021, Leacott led the Profs back to the NJAC Championship game with a 15-4-1 mark.
Leacott’s 2019 squad won five of its last seven regular-season matches and reached the semifinals of the NJAC Championship, finishing with a 10-8-1 record and placing five student-athletes on the All-Conference team.
The 2018 team made Rowan’s fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament, going 13-4-2 and reaching the conference championship match. That followed a 12-3-3 season in 2017, when the Profs made appearances in the NJAC Semifinals and the NCAA Tournament. The Profs earned three of the NJAC’s top honors that year with Shelby Money selected the Goalkeeper of the Year, Daria Jones named the Co-Player of the Year and Darah Wagner chosen the Midfielder of the Year, while Money received All-America honors.
The Profs captured the conference championships in back-to-back years, 2015 and 2016, while earning the NJAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Rowan went 16-2-2 in 2016 and had three NSCAA All-Region honorees with Money winning the first of her two NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year awards. In 2015, the Profs went 15-3-2 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. For his efforts, Leacott was honored as the Coach of the Year award in the NJAC, the ECAC Metro Region and the NSCAA South Atlantic Region.
Rowan was a fixture in the conference semifinals with three straight appearances from 2012 to 2014. The 2014 squad went 12-6-1, but in 2013, the Profs tied the school record for wins with a 17-4 record, posted an 8-1 league record and advanced to the NCAA Second Round. In 2012, Rowan put together a 13-4-1 record and after receiving an NJAC first-round bye to earn a spot in the semifinals, garnered another NCAA bid. The Profs advanced to the NCAA Second Round in both 2010 and 2011, with the teams posting 16-3-2 and 14-5 records, respectively, while the 2011 squad went 8-0 in league play to earn the top seed in the NJAC Tournament.
The 2009 season marked a milestone as the Profs tied the mark for the most wins in school history with a 17-3-1 record and made their deepest advancement in the NCAA Tournament with a berth in the Third Round. Leacott was honored as the NJAC’s Co-Coach of the Year, earning the award for the second year in a row. Rowan won its first NJAC Championship in 2008 and Leacott received his first of three NJAC Coach of the Year honors, while again leading the team to the NCAA Second Round.
The Profs were participants in the NCAA Tournament for three straight seasons, from 2005 to 2007, highlighted by a 15-1-3 record in 2005 and a school-record 10-match winning streak during that campaign.
Leacott played for the Profs in 1991 and 1992 and earned All-Conference, All-State and All-Region First Team honors both years. He topped the team in scoring as a senior with 18 goals and eight assists and was named to the All-America Third Team, while helping Rowan post a 35-5-3 record during his playing career.
Before taking over as head coach in 1999, Leacott was the associate head coach for the women’s soccer team for one season. That followed two years as an assistant coach with Rowan’s men’s team from 1996 to 1998.
Originally from Delran, NJ, Leacott was inducted into the South Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame in 2014. He and his wife, Michele, reside in Washington Township with their daughters, Kori and Khloe.
