Scott Costello is in his seventh year as an assistant women’s cross country and track & field coach at Rowan University.
 
Costello is responsible for coaching the distance runners. The Profs have set multiple school records in the distance events under his guidance. In 2017, Christin Bettis broke the 10:00 mark in the 3000 meters indoors (9:52.64) and Jessalynn Wright also broke a University mark in the 1000 meters (2:58.48).
 
In cross country, 11 Profs have been named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) All-Conference Team during Costello’s tenure. In 2014, Bettis was the NJAC individual champion and Runner of the Year. Rowan has placed second in the team scoring three times.
 
The Profs captured the NJAC Indoor Track & Field Championship in 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17. Bettis claimed the crown in the 3000 meters (10:12.61). She also won the event at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships with a school record time of 9:52.64 and finished 15th (10:17.60) at the national championships. The distance medley relay came in third (11:58.66) at the ECAC Championships, narrowly missing the University mark (11:49.15).
 
Rowan was the NJAC Outdoor Track & Field champion in 2019, 2018, 2015 and 2016. In 2015, Wright (800 meters), Dougherty (1500 meters and 5000 meters) and Bettis (10,000 meters) were individual winners. Bettis was also the ECAC champion in the 10,000 meters with a University mark of 35:54.55 and Dougherty won the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:45.93). Both qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships.
 
Costello is the founder and head coach of the Franklinville Track Club. He has twice led the club to the Nike Team Nationals (2010, 2011) and has had multiple athletes qualify for the Foot Locker Cross Country Regional and New Balance Indoor & Outdoor Nationals. Costello was previously an assistant track & field coach at Delsea Regional High School. He helped guide the Crusaders to three sectional titles and one state championship.
 
Costello has also been a cross country/distance coach for the South Jersey Rising Stars Track Club and Rowan College at Gloucester County (formerly Gloucester County College). He competed for the Profs and was a three-time All-American (1986, 1987 – 10,000 meters and 1988 – 5000 meters). Costello was a NJAC champion in cross country and in the 5000 and 10,000 meters.
 
Costello is a USA Track & Field Level I certified coach. He graduated from the University in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.
