Phil Petitte returned to the Rowan football staff in the 2018 season, as he brings a wealth of experience from Division I and III. He comes to the Profs from Sam Houston State University where he was a defensive consultant. He helped lead the football team to the NCAA National Semi-Final Playoffs in 2014 and 2015.
Prior to Sam Houston State, he served as the defensive line and field goal block coach at the University of Delaware from 2006 to 2013. During that time, he led the Blue Hens to two NCAA National Championship game appearances. In 2010, he coached the team that led the country in scoring defense and was fifth in overall defense and 12th in rushing defense.
Petitte started his Division I coaching at LaSalle University, as he was the defensive line coach and the associate head coach. Before LaSalle, he coached at Rowan University from 1995-2003. During his time, the Profs made seven NCAA Division III playoff appearances, with four of those years making it to the national championship game. In 1999, he helped coach the Prof defense to be the #1 ranking in the country.
Petitte was a 1971 graduate of Glassboro State College, now Rowan University, with a degree in health and physical education.
