Penny Kempf is in her 12th season as head field hockey coach at Rowan University. She has a record of 173-44. Kempf has led Rowan to one NCAA title, 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and five New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships.

Last year, Rowan posted a 15-5 record and reached the third round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. In 2007, the Profs went 15-5 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. In 2006, Kempf guided Rowan to a 15-6 record and to the second round of the national tournament. The Profs had a 17-4 record, won the conference and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in 2005.

Rowan won the 2002 NCAA Championship and finished the season undefeated with a 21-0 record. The 21 victories broke the school record (18) for wins in a season. It was the first national title for a women's team at the University. The Profs also captured the conference championship. Kempf was chosen the 2002 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Coach of the Year, the South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year and the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Coach of the Year.

The Profs advanced to the semifinals in 2000 and 1998 and reached the quarterfinals in 1999. The Profs won the NJAC Championship in 2005, 2003, 2002, 2000 and in 1998.

In 1998, Rowan advanced to its first NCAA semifinal and finished third. The Profs won their first NJAC title. Rowan ended The College of New Jersey's 16 year reign as NJAC champions with two wins over the Lions and an 8-0 conference mark. Kempf was selected the NJAC Coach of the Year by her peers and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

Kempf has served on the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Committee. She is a past chair of the South Atlantic Region and of the national committee.

Prior to Rowan, Kempf was a graduate assistant in field hockey and lacrosse for two years at Division II West Chester University. She earned her master's degree in physical education while at West Chester. In 1989, Kempf spent one season at Division II Lock Haven University as the assistant lacrosse coach.

Kempf received her bachelor's in health and physical education from Trenton State College in 1988. She received All-American honors in field hockey at attack and was twice named All-America in lacrosse on defense. Kempf was a member of the United States lacrosse team for three years.
