In 2007, Thornton starts her second year as an assistant coach for the Rowan University field hockey team. She shares in the planning and implementation of practices and the recruiting of players. 
 
A midfielder, she played for the Profs’ field hockey team from 2000-03. In four seasons, Thornton totaled 61 points with 18 goals and 25 assists.
 
Her senior year, she was third in scoring with 22 points (six goals, 10 assists). A captain, Thornton was named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-America and the South Atlantic All-Region first teams. She was chosen the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Defensive Player of the Year and to the NJAC All-Conference team. In addition, she was a member of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star first team. 
 
As a junior, Thornton scored eight goals and assisted on eight for 24 points. She was chosen the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week twice and to the All-Conference team. Thornton was selected to the NFHCA South Atlantic All-Region and ECAC All-Star second teams. She was honored on the NFHCA National Academic Squad. 
 
During her career, Rowan posted a 66-10 record. The Profs won the 2002 NCAA Division III Championship and finished the season undefeated with a 21-0 record. The field hockey team advanced to the national semifinals in 2000 and reached the quarterfinals in 2003 and 2001. Rowan captured the NJAC Championship three times (2003, 2002, 2000).
 
In 2004, Thornton graduated from the University with a bachelors degree in health and exercise science.   She is currently a health and physical education teacher at Rancocas Valley Regional High School.
