LEXINGTON, VA -
Sydney Kowalczyk's goal with 1:15 remaining, after
Sophia Weisler had tied the game just three minutes before, gave Rowan a 3-2 win over #17 Washington and Lee (4-3) in field hockey action. It is Rowan's sixth straight win, and third over a ranked opponent in the past week as the Profs improve to 6-3 on the year.
The Profs erased Washington and Lee's 2-1 lead in the fourth quarter after trailing since just before halftime. Weisler took a pass from
Aurelia McManis and scored at 54:48.
Kowalczyk notched the game winner at 58:45, as the Profs applied the pressure and
Tori Tullio assisted on the score. It was the sophomore's team-best sixth goal of the year and her second gamewinner.
McManis recorded Rowan's first goal after the Profs fell behind as Washington and Lee scored just 56 seconds in. McManis took a pass from Kowalczyk at 3:44 to tie the game, while notching her third of the season.
Rowan outshot the Generals, 17-13, while
Ella Morton had six saves and Weisler made a key defensive save with under five minutes to play.
It was the second time in consecutive days that Rowan needed a late score, as on Saturday,
Mia Foti scored with less than five minutes left to hand the Profs a 2-1 decision at #25 Lynchburg.
The Profs are back at home this week, hosting Messiah on Wednesday evening and then beginning defense of their NJAC title with the conference opener vs. Ramapo on Friday.
