GLASSBORO, NJ -- #20 Softball celebrated Senior Day with a doubleheader sweep of William Paterson in NJAC action on Saturday. The Profs claimed game one, 9-1, in six innings and took game two with a 3-0 victory. The two wins extend the team's win streak to 12 games.
After game two, the team and coaching staff took a moment to honor the team's seniors:
Abigail Pawlowski,
Emily McCutcheon,
Kate Evick,
Cami Morgan,
Brooke McGuigan,
Lindsay Cahill,
Holly Markus, and student assistant coach
Veronica Goode.
Game one
The Profs erased an early 1-0 deficit with five runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of
Zoey Rogers.
Emma Dobkin added an RBI base hit in the third before Rowan crossed three runs in the sixth, the last coming in a safety squeeze from
Jodi McGuigan to plate
Mikayla Dansky to kick in the eight-run rule.
BethAnne Doderer (15-2) scattered nine hits allowing just one early run, but struck out five and did walk a Pioneer batter.
In that second with runners in scoring position, pinch hitter
Aly Reim came through with a single to score Pawlowski to get Rowan on the board. After an infield hit to load the bases, Dansky worked an eight pitch at-bat to draw a walk and score another run before Rogers knocked in two more to make it 5-1.
Dobkin finished with two hits while Dansky scored twice and added a stolen base.
Game two
McCutcheon (13-5) put a stamp on the NJAC doubleheader sweep by throwing a three-hit shutout with four K's and zero walks. The senior did not allow a baserunner past second base on the day.
The Profs had just six hits, but took advantage of Pioneer mishaps to score a pair of unearned runs.
Pawlowski reached on an error to lead off the second and would come around to score on Dobkin's double to right field.
Maddyn Rittler, who came on to pinch run for Dobkin, moved to third on a wild pitch and later scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 advantage.
Dobkin hit her second double of the day, this time to start the fourth. A flyout to deep right field helped Dobkin tag to third, but the throw was of course, allowing the freshman to score to up the lead to three runs.
It was more than enough for McCutcheon who spun 1-2-3 innings in five of the seven frames.
Rowan resume action on Tuesday, hosting Rutgers-Newark in a NJAC Doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
