McCoach Drives in Five Runs to Help #7 Baseball Defeat John Jay, 8-3

GLASSBORO, NJ - Evan McCoach drove in five runs with a pair of doubles as #7 Rowan overcame a slow start to defeat John Jay, 8-3, in non-conference baseball action. The win is the Profs' eighth consecutive as they improve to 13-2.

McCoach went 2-for-5 with the doubles, and scored one run, while reaching a career-high in RBI. Luke Bickunas and Jason Schooley drove in a run apiece, while Kyle Lamanteer and Joey Bogart each scored twice.

Mark Grubb (1-0) earned the victory in the "bullpen" game, as he pitched a scoreless inning after the Profs took the lead. Miles DeVincentis made the start and went 3.0 innings, while Jake Andrey, Dane Samartino, Evan Brasberger, Jack Norton and Nick Watson also saw time on the mound.

McCoach had the winning hit in the fifth, breaking a 2-2 tie with a bases-loaded double to score Mason Dorsey, Bogart and Lamanteer and give Rowan a 5-2 lead. In the sixth, the centerfielder hit a two-run double down the rightfield line to score Bogart and Lamanteer and increase the lead to 7-2. Schooley followed with an RBI double of his own to bring home McCoach and give Rowan an 8-2 lead.

Bickunas got the Profs started in the first, drawing a bases-loaded walk and then helped Rowan up the lead to 2-0 after scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth.

John Jay (1-17) scored two runs in the fifth to tie the game, before McCoach broke things open. The Bloodhounds added a run in the ninth to provide the final margin.

Rowan will host conference rival Stockton on Thursday in a single game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
