REGIONAL HOMEPAGE | INTERACTIVE BRACKETÂ | REGIONAL PRESS CONFERENCE
The Profs will take on SUNY-Cortland, who advanced out of the loser's bracket with two wins on Saturday, in the regional final on Sunday at 11 a.m. Rowan needs one win to move on to the super regional round, while the Red Dragons need two. An 'if necessary' game would then be played at 1:30 p.m.
Later on Saturday, Cortland
eliminated RPI with a 10-5 victory and then
took out Tufts, 9-2, to get to the final pairings of the regional
The game originally started on Friday morning with Tufts leading 2-1 at the end of the second inning, but severe inclement weather pushed back the regional a day. With the game resuming nearly 24 hours later, the Profs took care of business to stay unbeaten in its regional.
Rylee Lutz scattered eight hits, giving up the two runs, while adding five strikeouts and one walk to earn the win. The senior threw into the seventh before being lifted for
Emily McCutcheon who notched a pair of outs to pick up the save. Lutz (20-1) notched her third-straight season with 20 more wins and 100+ strikeouts with Saturday's performance.
Rowan, the designated visiting team, got on the board in the first on a two-out RBI single from
Abigail Pawlowski to score
McKenzie Melvin. The Jumbos answered in the bottom half with a two-run double off the bat of Heaven Oliva.
Play resumed on Saturday in the top of the third and Rowan did not skip a beat.
Payton MacNair doubled in Melvin from first, beating the relay home to knot things up at 2-2.
The Profs took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring an unearned run off a throwing error.
Kate Evick led off the frame with an infield single. With
Mikayla Dansky coming on to pinch run, a sacrifice attempt worked in Rowan's favor as
Holly Markus evaded the tag down the first base line on her bunt attempt to put two on with no one out. After
Zara MacNair was able to move the runners up, Dansky later scored on Melvin's grounder to short as the throw was high.
In the fourth, Melvin threw out Tufts' Madi Sewell at second to end the frame as Sewell tried to stretch a single into a double.
From there, Lutz allowed just two baserunners the rest of the way with the latter coming in the seventh before McCutcheon came on to nail down her second save of the year.
McCaffery was 2-for-4 with Melvin who walked once and scored twice.
