UNION, NJ - A walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning solidified a doubleheader sweep for #12 Kean over #11 Rowan in the NJAC baseball opener this afternoon, with the Cougars winning by scores of 6-3 and 6-5. Rowan is now 14-4 and 0-2 in the conference.
GAME 1 - Kean 6, Rowan 3
Kean scored five runs in the final four innings to earn the 6-3 win in the first game.
Trailing 2-0 after a pair of Kean home runs, Rowan tied it in the fourth after
Tyler Cannon hit a two-run single. But the Cougars woudl score a run apiece in the fifth and seventh and then add two in the eighth to take a 6-2 lead.
Rowan could only manage one run in the ninth when Cannon drove in his third run of the game as he drew a bases-loaded walk.
Cannon led the Profs with two hits and three RBI, although Rowan didn't register an extra-base hit.
Starter
Mike Shannon (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year as he gave up all six of Kean's runs.
Christian Rice finished out the eighth inning of the game.
GAME 2 - Kean 6, Rowan 5 (10)
The Profs jumped out to a 1-0 lead on
Phil Sedalis' first-inning home run, his team-best fifth of the season.
Kean (17-5; 2-0) quickly tied it but then Rowan scored three runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 lead.
Jason Morgan had the big hit, a two-run double, while
Ben Maiers brought one home with a sacrifice bunt. Rowan's lead was short-lived as the Cougars picked up three in the sixth on a pair of doubles to tie the game at 4-4.
Kean was up 5-4 before Morgan singled in the eighth to drive home
Joey Bogart, tying the score.
Neither team could score in the ninth and the Profs couldn't get a baserunner in the 10th.
After getting on board with a hit batter and an error, Kean's Justin Teixeria singled to walk-off the run for the home team.
Bogart and Morgan had two hits apiece with Morgan driving in three runs, including two on a double.
Reliever
Sean Colbert (0-1) was saddled with the loss after 2.2 innings of work.
The Profs are right back at it on Sunday when they travel to regional rival Penn State Harrisburg.
