ABINGTON, PA –
Jason Morgan hit a pair of home runs, and
Marco Mannino posted a career-high five RBI, to lead #11 Rowan baseball to a 12-0 win over Penn State Abington in eight innings. Righthander
Zach Coluccio threw six scoreless innings to earn the victory as the Profs improve to 13-2.
Morgan led off the game with a solo shot down the left field line, and then hit a two-run homer in the second inning, giving him three on the season. It marked the first time in his career that he has had two homers in one game, while he now has nine in his career. He's also the second Prof to hit two home runs in a game as
Phil Sedalis also accomplished it in a win over Washington & Jefferson (March 13).
Mannino went 2-for-4 at the plate while
Nick Struble was 3-for-4 with RBI, also hitting his first home run of the season.
Struble led off the second inning with a walk and after the Profs loaded the bases,
Mason Dorsey drove him home with a sacrifice fly. A ground out from Mannino brought home
Joey Bogart and then Morgan sent a pitch over the right field fence to score
Jason Schooley, who reached base with a bunt single, to give Rowan a 6-0 lead.
Mannino's sacrifice bunt in the fourth allowed Bogart to score and then the senior hit a double in the sixth to bring home Schooley. In the seventh, Mannino singled to drive in two runs, scored by Schooley and Struble, for a 9-0 lead.
Tyler Cannon had a single in the eighth to push
Ben Maiers across the plate for a 10-0 lead and then Struble finished off the game with a two-run shot that scored
Chris Serrano.
Coluccio (2-0) struck out four and allowed four hits, with
Christian Rice and
Jack Norton seeing an inning each in relief.
It marked the ninth time in the last 10 games that Rowan has scored double-digit runs.
The Profs will play their first home game of the year on Wednesday when they host Swarthmore. First pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
