Offense Clicking in #4 Softball's Two Wins on Wednesday at The Spring Games

McCaffery sets program walk record as well

CLERMONT, FL -- #4 Rowan University pounded out a total of 30 hits in two wins on Wednesday down at The Spring Games. The Profs bested Springfield, 7-0, in the day's first game before posting a 9-1 walkoff win over Babson in five innings.

Senior Liz McCaffery also set a program record the win over Babson, becoming the all-time leader in walks.

Game one (vs. Springfield, W, 7-0)
Holly Markus had a career-high four hits while Payton MacNair drove in three runs and Breanna Bryant was 3-for-4 with two RBI's as Rowan collected 17 hits.

Emily McCutcheon went all seven innings, scattering six hits with one walk and five K's to move to 8-0 this season.

Bryant's two-run double highlighted a four-spot in the first. In the third, Markus knocked in Abigail Pawlowski to make it 5-0.

In the fourth with Liz McCaffery on third and McKenzie Melvin on second, MacNair's fly out to deep center allowed both runners to tag and score for the rare two-run sacrifice fly.

Game two (vs. Babson, W, 9-1 F/5)
The offense kept the foot on the gas pedal, racking up 13 hits. McCaffery, Melvin, and MacNair each drove in two runs and added multi-base hits. McCaffery walked, making her the all-time program leader with 90 career base on balls, passing the previous mark of 89 set by Morgan Smith (2015-18).

Rowan rebounded from an unearned run in the top of the third, scoring three times on back-to-back extra-base hits from the aforementioned trio.

Rylee Lutz worked all five innings and got out of a potential spot in the fourth as the Beavers had the bases full. Bryant's nice snag on a liner at third base helped move things along to the bottom half, where Markus, Melvin, and MacNair had RBI hits to make it 7-1.

Lutz (8-0) fanned six, yielding the one unearned run on four hits to notch the victory.

Aly Reim drove in Bryant in the fifth and later came around to score on an infield single to kick in the run rule and help keep the Profs (18-0) unbeaten on the year.

The team resumes action on Friday in its final contests of the Florida trip. First up is a matchup with Wisconsin-LaCrosse at 9 a.m. followed by an 11:15 (ish) game against Trinity.
