#3 Softball Picks Up a Pair of Wins Over SUNY-New Paltz, 8-0 and 8-0

GLASSBORO, NJ -- #3 Rowan took two from visiting SUNY-New Paltz on a windy Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader with identical scores of 8-0 for each game.

Starting pitchers Rylee Lutz (game one) and Emily McCutcheon (game two) limited the Hawks to three hits while adding seven strikeouts and five walks on the day.

Game one
Holding a 2-0 lead after four innings, the Profs erupted for six in the fifth including a walk-off RBI pinch hit from Cami Morgan to end it. Liz McCaffery and Sofia McBride had two hits apiece. McKenzie Melvin tripled and scored twice with teammate Breanna Bryant adding an RBI double.

Lutz struck out five batters while allowing one hit and four walks to pick up the victory.

Bryant's bases loaded ground out put Rowan on the board in the first. After Melvin tripled in the third, she would score on a sac fly from Payton MacNair to make it 2-0.

A two-run error in the fifth opened the floodgates as the Profs added five hits to score four more runs capped off with Morgan's RBI single.

Game two
Abigail Pawlowski and Holly Markus paced the offense in the second game as each knocked in three runs. Pawlowski also scored twice while Markus had a career-best three hits.

A four-run first inning was more than enough for McCutcheon who held New Paltz (2-2) to just two hits and a walk while fanning two batters to lock up the sweep.

With the bases loaded in the first for Pawlowski, her liner ricocheted off pitcher Sydney Waldron and into left field allowing McCaffery and Melvin to score to highlight the frame.

Markus drove in a pair in the third as her two-out single to right brought home Pawlowski and pinch runner Mikayla Dansky to up the lead to 6-0. Now 7-0 in the fifth, Markus put the wraps on things with a walk-off RBI double to plate McBride.

Rowan (4-0) is back in action next weekend at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Profs will face off with Piedmont and Arcadia on Friday before taking on Marymount and North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday.
