Rally by #21 Baseball Falls Short as Ramapo Holds on for 7-5 Win in NJAC Tournament

Profs will play Kean on Saturday at noon in an elimination game

CAMDEN, NJ - #21 Rowan (25-12) scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Ramapo (26-14) was able to hold on for a 7-5 win in the NJAC Baseball Championship played at the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Complex.

The Profs have a quick turnaround and will play Kean on Saturday at noon in an elimination game. The winner of that contest will keep their hopes alive and play again at 7 p.m. on Saturday. TCNJ and Ramapo will meet on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in a winner's bracket game.

Trailing 7-3 heading into the ninth, the Profs got a pinch-hit single from Joey Bogart and a double by Tyler Cannon and loaded the bases when Phil Sedalis drew a walk off new pitcher Will Paoli. Pat Defeciani was then hit by a pitch to bring home Bogart and Dylan Maria drew a walk from James Garthaffner to allow Cannon to score, but the reliever was able to close out the game and earn his first save of the year.

Ramapo led the entire game, going up 2-0 in the top of the third. The Profs scored one in the bottom half of the inning as Anthony Schooley singled, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Marco Mannino.

Adding a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, Ramapo had a  4-1 lead, but Rowan got two back in the sixth. Sedalis reached on an error and Defeciani was hit by a pitch and Maria singled to advance both runners. Jason Morgan's fielder's choice brought home Sedalis with Karson Harcourt hitting a sacrifice fly to score Defeciani.

The Roadrunners added three runs over the seventh and eight to put the Profs in a 7-3 hole heading into the final two innings.

Rowan managed just five hits on the day while Ramapo totaled 12. Starter Zach Coluccio (5-2) had five strikeouts but was saddled with the loss and Jack Martin (6-2) earned the win.

The Profs defeated Kean earlier this week on the road, 8-6, in the first round of the tournament.
