DAVENPORT, FL - The #10 Rowan baseball team closed out its Florida trip with a 9-5 win over Southern Maine, as
Jason Morgan recorded three hits and the Profs got home runs from
Dylan Maria and
Joey Bogart. The Profs went 8-1 on the trip and go home with a 9-2 record.
Matt Choi (2-0) picked up his second win of the year as he allowed only two hits and one run through five innings, while he struck out a career-high eight batters.
Sean Colbert was able to close out the final 1.1 innings for the Profs.
Rowan jumped out to an 6-0 lead in the first three innings, taking advantage of a USM error in the first and then using an RBI single from Bogart in the second. The Profs scored four in the third as Maria singled to bring home
Anthony Schooley, who had doubled. Morgan blasted a triple to score Maria, and then scored on an error, with
Nick Struble doubling in
Karson Harcourt for the 6-0 lead.
Bogart hit a solo homer in the sixth, his second in two games, and Schooley brought home
Phil Sedalis with his second double of the game.
Southern Maine got on the board in top of the sixth on a solo home run by Kyle Douin to cut the Rowan lead to 8-1. The Profs upped it to 9-1 in the top of the seventh as Maria hit his team-best ninth home run of the year.
But USM wouldn't fold and put together an eighth-inning rally culminating in a grand slam from Douin to pull the Huskies within, 9-5.
Colbert gave up one hit in the ninth but was able to keep USM off the board for the Profs' win.
Rowan returns home and will visit Haverford on Tuesday, March 19 before playing its home opener on Wednesday, March 20, against Neumann.
