GLASSBORO, NJ – Freshman
Abby Petrich tallied her first career goal, and made it the gamewinner, as third-ranked Rowan edged Swarthmore, 2-1, at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
With the score knotted at 1-1, Petrich carried the ball into the circle and scored from five yards out at 33:25.
It completed a come-from-behind victory for Rowan (2-1) as Swarthmore took the first lead of the game in the second quarter, with a goal at 27:14. The Profs needed just a few seconds to tie it up, as
Sidney Pavlishin took a shot off the corner and
Kaylee Wenzel deflected it in at 27:49 for her first goal as a Prof.
Swarthmore (0-2) outshot Rowan, 10-8, but senior goalie
Aida Ingram made five saves to preserve the victory.
Rowan will play its second straight home game when it hosts #2 Johns Hopkins on Saturday, September 9, in a meeting of two teams which ended last season in the 2022 NCAA Semifinals at Wackar Stadium. Game time is 1 p.m.
