Sarah Bergan notched her first career hat trick to lead the undefeated Rowan (5-0-1) women's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Penn State Berks (2-3) this evening. Goalkeepers
Calista Burke and
Gemma Keesler shared the shutout, which was the Profs' third of the year.
Bergan wasted no time, scoring nine minutes into the match, taking a cross from
Gabby Dean and scoring on a one touch at 9:38.
Lianna SanFelice scored just two minutes later on a breakaway to give the Profs a quick 2-0 lead.
Bergan scored her second on a penalty kick at 24:21 putting it past Sophia Gonzalez to give the Profs a 3-0 halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the second half as
Mackenzie Clement scored just minutes into the second half, with the assist from
Lauren SanFelice. Bergan clinched the hat trick as she collected a clear and put it right into the goal at 48:15 for her third of the game.
Dean closed out the scoring for the Profs when she took passes from
Ava Morales and
Lauren SanFelice at 50:49.
Burke made two saves in 65 minutes and Keelser didn't have to make any in her 25 minutes of action as Rowan outshot the Lions, 8-2.
The Profs get a week off and return to action to open defense of their NJAC title on September 23
rd when they host Kean.
