Vanessa DiDonato scored the game's lone goal to lead third-ranked Rowan to a 1-0 win over visiting Ursinus in the field hockey season opener for both teams at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, DiDonato opened the scoring in the third quarter at 37:07 when she carried the ball more than 25 yards into the circle and scored on a shot from 10 yards out for Rowan's first goal of the season. It was also the first game-winning goal of the junior's career.
Aida Ingram had seven saves in picking up the victory and the first solo shutout of her career. Included in her total of saves were two in a row as Ursinus threatened in the fourth quarter. The teams were even with nine shots each in the game.
Rowan (1-0) has a quick turnaround and heads to Catholic on Sunday for a noon start.
