ASHLAND, VA -- #9 Randolph-Macon forced a third game of the 2023 Division III Super Regional with its 3-0 decision Saturday. The two teams will meet later to decide who will advance to the NCAA Softball Championship Final next weekend in Marshall, Texas.
The Yellow Jackets' Rilee Baughan limited the Profs to four hits while walking four and striking out five.
Randolph Macon scored in the first on a an RBI single Kayla Davis.
Rowan appeared to score in the bottom half as
Liz McCaffery tripled to right with a runner on but after an umpire conference, the play was determined to be a ground-rule double after the ball went into an out-of-play area off the field, putting runners back on second and third. Baughan got a strikeout and ground out to get out of the frame.
Gracie Ellis added a two-run double in third to add to the RMC lead
The Profs looked to threaten in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases with two outs but a forceout on a fielder's choice ended the inning.
Rylee Lutz took the loss, throwing into the third.
Marina Costello went the rest of the way, allowing just three hits in 4.2 innings of work.
