GALLOWAY, NJ –
Anthony Schooley,
Chris Curcio and
Dylan Maria drove in two runs apiece as #21 Rowan held off a late Stockton rally to score a 9-5 road win in NJAC baseball action. The teams will meet again tomorrow at Rowan in a single game that will begin at 10:30 a.m. due to the weather forecast. Rowan wins its fourth in the row and improves to 26-10 (11-4 NJAC).
Jason O'Neill (6-1) picked up his team-best sixth win of the year, going seven innings and striking out three.
Matt Choi tossed one inning in relief as did
Zach Grace, who retired the Stockton (26-17; 6-9) side in the ninth.
Schooley went 3-for-4, with three runs and two RBI, with Curcio, Maria,
Phil Sedalis and
Tyler Cannon picking up two hits each to aid the win.
Rowan jumped out 3-0 after Maria hit a two-run single in the first, followed by an RBI ground out by
Ryan Murphy. Although Stockton got two back in the second, Schooley doubled to bring home Cannon. Then
Jason Morgan hit an RBI single and Curcio doubled in two runs to give the Profs a 7-2 lead in the top of the third.
Kevin Novobilsky homered to right field in the sixth to pull Stockton within 7-3. Rowan got a pair of insurance runs in the seventh, thanks to an RBI single from Schooley and one from Murphy to give Rowan a 9-3 lead.
Novobilsky brought Stockton within 9-5 by hitting his second home run of the game, a two-run shot down the right field line. But Grace was able to thwart any Stockton chances in the ninth when he made his first relief appearance of the year, retiring three straight batters and posting a strikeout to end the game.
