MAHWAH, NJ –
Anthony Schooley drove in five runs and
Ryan Murphy went 4-for-4 as #17 Rowan defeated Ramapo, 11-5, in the first game of an NJAC doubleheader, but Ramapo scored a 9-3 win in the second game to force a split. Rowan is now 21-8 and 7-3 in the league.
Game 1
Schooley was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles while Murphy had three singles and double in addition to scoring two runs.
Jason Morgan was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI, including a triple, while
Phil Sedalis scored three runs and
Pat Defeciani added two hits.
Zach Grace earned the win to improve to 5-0 as he scattered three hits and struck out eight in five innings.
Sean Colbert pitched the remaining three and kept the Roadrunners scoreless to earn his first save as a Prof.
Rowan took a 2-0 lead in the first after an RBI double by Schooley and RBI single from Murphy. The Profs upped it to 8-0 after three innings with
Phil Sedalis driving in one with a walk and Schooley hitting a three-run double that allowed Sedalis, Morgan and
Brian Gallante to cross the plate. In the third, Morgan hit a two-run single to score
Chris Curcio and Murphy.
Ramapo got four back in the third with a pair of two-run singles and added three more in the sixth when Justin Garthaffner hit a three-run home run, to cut Rowan's lead to 8-5.
The Profs added insurance runs in the final innings on sacrifice flies by Schooley and Gallante.
Game 2
Ramapo (16-12; 4-6
) struck first with a run in the second and Rowan tied it in the third when Schooley drove in
Phil Sedalis, who had singled and advanced on an error. The Roadrunners then scored three more in the next two innings, to go up 4-1.
Ramapo scored two in the fourth with a two-run single by Brian Baranok and then saw Matt Lalomia drive in two runs with a single in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.
Rowan added two runs in the seventh when Sedalis hit a sacrifice fly to score
Karson Harcourt and then Schooley singled, and advanced on an error, which allowed Cannon to cross the plate.
The Roadrunners scored three more in the seventh inning, which included a two-run single from Tyler Guadagno to provide the final margin. Will Paoli pitched the last two innings for Ramapo and retired three straight Rowan batters in each of them to preserve the win.
Sedalis and Schooley were the only Profs with multiple hits, with Schooley notching two RBI.
Starter
Jake Reese (1-3) took the loss with Nick Danbrowney going seven innings, and striking out eight, to pick up the win for Ramapo.
The Profs head to York for a non-conference game on Tuesday and then resume NJAC play hosting Rutgers-Camden on Thursday.
