#10 Baseball Falls to #2 Salisbury, 6-4, to End Eight-Game Winning Streak

SALISBURY, MD – Rowan received home runs from Dylan Maria and Phil Sedalis but it wasn't enough as the #10 Profs fell to #2 Salisbury, 6-4, in non-league baseball action today. The loss ended Rowan's winning streak at eight games as they fall to 13-4 on the year.

The second-ranked Sea Gulls (19-3) used a three-run second inning to help the cause and added insurance runs in the sixth with a two-run homer.

Anthony Schooley had two hits for the Profs, as did Tyler Cannon, Sedalis and Brian Gallante, but Rowan stranded 11 runners on base.

Rowan started off the scoring in the top of the first as Maria connected on his team-best fifth home run of the year, a two-run shot that scored Ryan Murphy.

Salisbury got on the board in the bottom of the first with three singles. The Sea Gulls overtook the lead, 4-2, with three runs in the bottom of the third, getting three hits and taking advantage of two Prof errors.

Rowan closed to 4-3 in the sixth as Sedalis led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a single by Jason Morgan. The sophomore centerfielder scored on a sacrifice fly from Cannon.

The Sea Gulls used a two-run home run by Kavi Caster to increase their margin to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Sedalis added the Profs' final run in the eighth when he connected on an inside-the-park home run, for his third round-tripper of the year. Salisbury's Jimmy Adkins recorded the save in the ninth as he allowed just one hit to Schooley, who was stranded on base.

Jake Reese (0-2) made the start for Rowan and suffered the loss, while recording five strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Sean Colbert finished out the game, not allowing any runs and striking out three.

The Profs begin their NJAC season on Saturday, when they host William Paterson in a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m. (weather permitting). Check RowanAthletics.com for updates.
