GLASSBORO, NJ – Freshman
Jason Morgan was 2-for-4 and drove in five runs and
Dylan Maria was 3-for-6 with three RBI as #11 Rowan pounded out 20 hits to score a 21-5 win over visiting Haverford (9-6), in a game that was suspended after eight innings due to darkness. It was the Profs' home opener and they improved to 10-3 with their fifth straight win.
Morgan hit his second home run of the year in the eighth inning, a three-run shot to score
Phil Sedalis and
Chris Curcio. The hit first appeared to have a been caught by the Haverford right fielder, but it was then ruled to have cleared the fence.
The Profs also got three hits apiece from
Tyler Cannon,
Ryan Murphy,
Dylan Maria and Curcio. Maria had two doubles, Murphy hit one and
Anthony Schooley added another. Murphy and Maria each drove in three runs, while
Brian Gallante,
Pat Defeciani and Sedalis each posted two RBI.
Zach Grace (2-0) earned the victory for Rowan, allowing three hits and striking out five in 5.0 innings.
Ryan Iovine,
Chase Rieger and
Sean Colbert combined to finish off the win in relief.
The Profs struck early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first as Murphy and Defeciani each singled, and Maria drove in Murphy with a sacrifice fly, while Defeciani scored on an RBI single by
Chris Curcio. Rowan batted around and added five runs in the second on five hits, including an RBI double by Murphy, RBI singles from Curcio and Maria.
With the Profs up 7-0, Haverford got one back in the third and then Rowan countered with another run, on double from Maria that scored Cannon. Morgan added two more runs with a single in the fourth to give Rowan a 10-1 lead.
Haverford fought back in the middle innings scoring four to pull within, 10-5, by the end of the seventh. After a sacrifice fly by Gallante brought one run in, Morgan hit his three-run shot to give Rowan a 14-5 advantage. The Profs batted around again in the eight as they scored seven runs, that included a two-run single by Murphy.
The teams committed a total of seven errors in the contest, while combining for 26 walks.
Rowan heads to Neumann on Wednesday for a single game at 3:30 p.m.
